lyrics

Chestnuts aren’t as tasty as the song sounds
I just say I’m allergic and stay clear
And jingle bells get awfully annoying
When, for weeks on end, they’re ringing in your ear
I do think children’s choirs sound like angels
If angels sound like cats about to die
But for all the horrid things
That the Christmas season brings
There’s one thing that doesn’t make me want to cry…

You brighten up the season
You’re the reason I don’t go stark raving mad
You brighten up the season
When it’s freezin’, even still I’m sort of glad
‘Cause you understand my quirks
And while other folks are jerks
I can stand you, we are family you and I
So when you tell me “Have a Merry Christmas!”
I’ll grit my teeth, put up a wreath, and just for you…
…I guess I’ll try.

When fields are covered over with a powder,
I want to leave the snow and travel to the beach
It’s the curse of fresh hot cocoa to remind me
That the sun and sand again are out of reach.
Don’t you know that Jesus wasn’t born in winter?
Can’t we celebrate some other time of year?
I’m a Grinch who’s getting old,
I just can’t abide the cold,
But there’s one thing I guess I should make very clear…

You brighten up the season
You’re the reason I don’t go stark raving mad
You brighten up the season
When it’s freezin’, even still I’m sort of glad
‘Cause you understand my quirks
And while other folks are jerks
I can stand you, we are family you and I
So when you tell me “Have a Merry Christmas!”
I’ll grit my teeth, put up a wreath, and just for you…
…I guess I’ll try.
